My CEREC crown is dirty

I’ve had a cerec crown for over a year now. It’s always been great, but ever since my last cleaning it has been picking up stains. I’m not sure what to do.  I’m not doing anything different.  Can it be fixed? Is it because it is a cerec crown?

Dean W. – Colorado

It’s possible that something happened at your last cleaning that damaged the glaze on your cerec crowns. Did your hygienist use anything like a prophy jet?  That could have done it.

CEREC crowns hold up pretty well.  So there is something else going on. If the glazing is off your crown, it would begin to pick up stains. There are polishing techniques that can be done, but they’re pretty advanced and very few dentists can do them.

You’ll likely have to have the crown replaced.  If it turns out the hygienist used something that damaged the crown,  then you can probably get them to replace it without charge.

Can I wait to see my cater to cowards dentist?

I used to see a dentist who was great at  catering to cowards. I loved that dentist, but I had to move. I’ve tried other dentists, but they’re all sadistic.  Now, I’ve got a loose filling and wondered if I could wait to see my old dentist. I’m going to visit my parents in about a month and am perfectly willing to schedule with him while I’m there.

Marcus G. – Pine Bluff, AR

If you’ve got a loose filling, it’s very likely that you’ve got an underlying problem.  You don’t want to let this go, because if it is an infection, it will only get worse.

You’ve got a few good choices.  One, is  you can try to get home to see your parents early, if that is at all possible.  I don’t know how far away they are, but maybe if you can’t stay long, but can make a quick day trip, that might be an option. You can sneak in and out of town without your family knowing and then take your extended trip later.

If getting back to your old cater to cowards dentist won’t work out, have you looked into someone local who caters to cowards.  Some times there website will say something directly like that. Other times, they’ll just call themselves a sedation dentist.  It’s worth a try, especially if you end up finding another great dentist.

Are affordable dental implants safe?

I was hoping to save some money with an expensive dental implant procedure. One dentist in my area advertises providing affordable dental implants.  The only thing that worries me, is I’ve heard horror stories about people who’ve gotten cheap dental implants. I don’t want that to happen to me.

Sara K. – Conway, AR

You’ve asked an astute question. You also made an important distinction.  There is a big difference between affordable dental implants and cheap dental implants.

Some dentists will use lower quality abutments and other inferior materials. Those are the dentists who would rather cut corners than  profits.  You want a dentist that finds a way to give you quality dental implants at an affordable price.

There are a variety of ways to do this. Determining which you do depends in large part on what your particular sitution is.  Would mini implants work in your case? Or two implants with a snap on denture?

Communicate with your dentist. Do your research. What do other patients who’ve had dental implants have to say.
