When you are in the position of losing all your teeth it can be a little stressful deciding how to go about replacing them. Generally there are two main options. The first are dental implants. They provide a complete replacement of your tooth by surgically implanting a prosthtic root, with a false tooth later connected to it. You may click here to learn more about dental implants. A second option is to get dentures. This option replaces your teeth with a removable appliance. Dr. Theriot can provide you with a lovely set of dentures, providing excellent quality without taking any shortcuts.
Some Limitations with Dentures
No matter how well made your dentures are you need to be aware they have some limitations. As long as you understand the limitations, you’ll be more likely to adjust to wearing dentures. Because they rest on moveable tissue it makes them moveable. Though they can be made to fit your mouth quite well, they will never be 100% secure. Your chewing efficiency will be cut by about 50%. You’ll still be able to eat, but it won’t be the same as your natural teeth.
If living with those limitations seem too much for you, you might consider getting implant supported dentures. These place two dental implants and Dr. Theriot uses a snap system to bind them together. This will give your dentures more stability. You can learn more about that option by clicking here for our implant supported dentures page.
