Medicaid Dentist Programs

Louisiana has several federally-sponsored programs in place to assist low-income individuals with their dental care. Below is a brief overview of each program as it pertains to dental services. For guidelines, qualification requirements, and information about the services available to you and your family, visit the Louisiana Dental Association website.

For children under the age of 21, the Early Periodic Screening, Diagnosis, and Treatment (EPSDT) Program emphasizes preventative and diagnostic treatment, as well as restorative, surgical, and many other services.

For individuals over the age of 21, you may be eligible for the Adult Denture Program. Services included under this program include the re-lining of dentures and repairs. And if you qualify for a Medicaid-authorized denture, the exam and x-rays are covered for manufacturing the denture. It is important to note that restorative or surgical procedures are not included.

If you are pregnant and Medicaid eligible, there is a program called the Expanded Dental Services for Pregnant Women (EDSPW). You must be between the ages of 21 to 59 and currently pregnant when you receive treatment. Coverage includes x-rays and exams, routine dental cleanings, cavities, certain periodontal services, and certain oral surgery services. After your pregnancy, you will no longer be eligible for the benefits covered by this program.
